Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis Presentation |
||||||||
|
Fig. 17. The inheritance of X-linked diseases can also be dominant or recessive. In both conditions, preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is useful to identify affected and healthy embrya. A. The affected X chromosome from the mother can be transferred to daughters as well as sons, and they will be affected by the disease (A1, A3), whereas the healthy X chromosome transferred to daughters or sons will produce healthy children (A2, A4).
B. The affected X chromosome from the father can be transferred only to
daughters (B1, B2). The mother has two healthy X chromosomes, which in
combination with a normal Y chromosome of the father will produce healthy
sons (B3, B4). |
