A synthetic androgen-like preparation frequently prescribed for treatment of endometriosis. It works by inhibiting the production of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). That results in diminished levels of estrogen and progesterone, the hormones that support growth and activity of endometrium and endometrial implants in endometriosis.
