At puberty the production reaches clinical levels, which then produce development of secondary characteristics of a young male. From then on the male hormones are produced. There is no definite abrupt stoppage of male hormones similar to menopause in women. The male reproductive hormone/testosterone is produced by developed testicles. Besides production of the male hormone, the testicles also produce sperm. One or the other function, or possibly both functions, can be affected by various clinical situations. These hormones may be produced in excess by the female in certain conditions such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome – PCOS.
